1. Check the Texture

Try to press the shrimp body to determine the type of texture of the shrimp. If the texture is mushy, it means the shrimp has been at room temperature for a long time. While the shrimp that are still fresh usually have a skin that is not soft. In addition, you should buy shrimp that have a chewy textured body. Because it indicates that the shrimp is still fresh.

2. Pay attention to the color

Make sure the shrimp does not have a red color when you buy it. Because, red shrimp indicates that the shrimp is no longer fresh. Fresh shrimp usually have a grayish color.

3. Check the Shrimp Head

It’s best to avoid prawns that have their heads removed from their bodies. Because it is a characteristic of shrimp that are not fresh anymore. Therefore, it would be better if you buy shrimp that have heads still intact.

Oyster sauce

One of the ingredients in the seafood-style Sweet and Sour Shrimp recipe is oyster sauce. Well, here are some ways to choose oyster sauce to suit your cooking needs:

1. Check Raw Materials

Each oyster sauce product, has a different taste. For example, oyster sauce with a sweet and refreshing taste or oyster sauce with a dominant salty taste. However, you will not know the taste until you taste it. The solution is to check the raw materials on the packaging which have an important effect on the taste of the oyster sauce.

The description of the raw material for oyster sauce is listed on the packaging label which you must check before buying it. If you want oyster sauce with a strong oyster flavor, then choose a product that contains high oyster sauce. However, if you want a sweeter taste, then choose oyster sauce products that contain more sugar.

In addition to checking the raw materials, you also need to check the expiration date of the oyster sauce product on the packaging. The expiration date listed on the packaging generally indicates the period of time the oyster sauce has been used before the product is opened.

However, when you have opened the seal of the package, you should quickly spend it on cooking food ingredients. If not, then the oyster sauce will decrease in quality and tend to be unfit for consumption. The solution, you can store the opened oyster sauce product in the refrigerator. Generally, oyster sauce products can last about 1 to 6 months.

3. Choose the size of the packaging according to your job

The shape and size of oyster sauce packaging varies quite a lot in the market. Starting from sachets, small to medium-sized plastic bottles, or glass bottles. Well, you can choose products that suit your cooking needs.

If you only cook for small portions, you should choose oyster sauce products in the form of a sachet for one cooking. Meanwhile, for those of you who often use oyster sauce as a cooking spice, you should choose bottled oyster sauce. To be more efficient and practical.
